From Goodreads:
Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander’s face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate . . . until she sees Ky Markham’s face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.
The Society tells her it’s a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she’s destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can’t stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society’s infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she’s known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

I thought:
I could NOT put Matched down! Seriously, from the first page on- I was completely drawn into Cassia’s world and her complete naivety and innocence.

Matched is so gorgeously written, I loved everything- from the way Cassia admired her dress on the train to her holding the prized compact her grandfather had given her, and how she liked the way COM-PACT sounded when you said it…

I’ll admit that I was a teensy bit worried at first, because I am WICKED SICK of the dreaded ‘love triangle’. But, NO worries… It was sheer awesomeness! I totally loved Xander, I mean how could you NOT? Yeah, but being me… I was COMPLETELY smitten and head over heels in love with the absolutely unattainable Ky.

Usually I can completely figure these type of love drama’s out, but I honest-to-God did NOT freaking know who Cassia was going to end up picking!

“Is falling in love with someone’s story the same thing as falling in love with the person himself?” ~Cassia

“Even though I know I’m falling for Ky it is impossible not to love Xander for everything he is and everything he does.” ~Cassia

Then the unthinkable happens… after Cassia scores so well during her sorting test, impresses the instructors and falls in love… she’s in school when the speaker comes on informing EVERYONE that she has committed an infraction. This is bad. What do the officials know?? Turns out- all they want her to do is what she does best… Sort.

Easy right? Except this time they want her to sort PEOPLE, and one of these people is Ky. Sort the strong from the weak, the driven from the less ambitious. If she puts him to the top of the list (where he belongs…) where will he end up in the end?

Somewhere far away a war rages, the society need soldiers… and now in the the light of the early morning the officials are dragging Ky away… Cassia runs through the crowd, past Ky’s pleading aunt and uncle to see him one more time.

The officials order everyone to take the RED pill- the pill that makes you forget. Cassia doesn’t, she will REMEMBER, and she vows that she WILL find Ky.

OH MY GOD! I am DYING, I LOVED Matched so much!!! Xander is so amazing and sensitive, but I am totally Team Ky- *swoon*!

  1. I've read horrible and amazing reviews for this one, you and another online bud say it's great and loved it. Hmmm I'll go with my buds and have to check it… well out one day you know giant TBR pile

  2. Oh my gosh, I absolutely ADORED this one too! I agree with you completely, especially that it was beautifully written and that the love triangle was so, so much sweeter than expected! :) I can't wait until Crossed comes out so I can get my hands on a copy! Awesome review, Ashley! I'm Team Ky, too! ;)

  3. Yay! You loved it! It rocked my world too.

  4. Maria says:

Sounds good – I still haven't read it yet but I've heard nothing but good reviews for it – prehaps I shoud give it a try and soon!

  5. This book brings out either the love or the hate—that means it was a really well written book. I have read reviews all over the place and almost tempted to pick it up myself! Seriously, if an author can cause that big of response (love or hate) then they know how to get to readers!

  6. Kathy says:

I like Ky the most too. Xander is pretty sweet though. I could see her with either guy. I am hoping Crossed is even better than this one.

  7. Jenny says:

Matched was one of my favorite reads last year, I absolutely adored it! At the end I thought I might cry at how long I had to wait for Crossed and to find out what happened to Ky:( Love these covers too, they just make me happy. So glad you loved this one Ashley!

  8. Missie says:

I'm with Jenny on this one. Read it last year and LOVED it. I've been soooo worried about Ky. Hope he is okay. Can't wait for the movie either. :)

  9. Tiffany says:

Great review! I really enjoyed Matched, so beautifully written. Ky was my favorite as well. I can't wait to read Crossed.

  10. Anachronist says:

I haven't read it yet although I do have it. I know, it sounds pathetic…I think I shouldn't follow your blog at all…I am an ugly duckling here…*ana goes out to eat some worms*

  11. Rain Maiden says:

I have not picked up this one yet. After your fabulous review, it's going on the wish list.

  12. I definitely agree that Matched and Crossed are beautifully written. It's not so much the characters or the story that matters to me so much as how much I just want to keep reading Ally's words.

  13. This was an awesome book! I can't wait for Crossed.

  14. I really loved this book too! I can not wait to get my hands on Crossed!!

  15. You’ve been nominated by me as being Harder, Better, Faster and Stronger than the average blog! Head over to Gini's Win Stuff page ( and get the skinny, along with the Battle Badge and instructions.

  16. I am SO not getting this one until the next comes out. I just can't handle that much anxiety over a character. I'm so glad you enjoyed this one.

  17. J.J. Bonds says:

I picked this one up at the airport when I was desperate for something to read and it was such a good choice! I loved the story and its originality and cannot wait for Crossed!

  18. Alexa says:

Eh I never feel for this one. I just read it a few weeks ago and I was very unimpressed with the story. I started reading Crossed hoping the story would get better and Crossed became a DNF for me. Hey now don't be eying up Johnny just because I got him to read Dark Lover. jk I know you are married. :) Now the real challenge will get him to read past the first book or try a different adult series that I like. Wish me luck!

  19. Aurian says:

Great review Ashley, you almost convince me to try another YA novel ;)

  20. I suppose I'll be the odd chicka out and tell you I only liked this book. Don't get me wrong, I'll read the sequel, but I thought Xander got royally screwed over even though I loved Ky (*Team Ky*). I also thought the book a tad slow at times and I didn't feel Cassia's feelings a ton, she seemed more 2-dimmensional. I think everything is going to be so much better in book 2 and I know the characters now, so YAY! (Don't hit me!:D)

  21. Book Sake says:

I keep hearing opposite ends of the spectrum on this one – but it's gonna stay on my TBR list until I read it myself to figure it out!

  22. StephanieD says:

I don't think I could ever get sick of love triangles. In love, as well as shoes, a girl's gotta have choices! Yours is the most encouraging review I've come across for reading this book.

  23. Giselle says:

This is one that I have at home but haven't read it yet. I'll have to get to it soon though it sounds like something I would like. Especially if it's this well written. Great review! You make me want to read it asap! :DGiselleXpresso Reads

  24. Shelagh says:

Glad we agree on this one Ash! I really liked Xander as well, but I couldn't help falling for Ky right alongside Cassia (it was his notes that did it)! Can't wait for Crossed!ShelaghThe Word Fiend

  25. I enjoyed this one too. I'll need to do a re-read before reading Crossed (which I can't wait to get my hands on).
