1. So Cameron… Have you always had a thing for fairy tales?

Not at first, when all my reference to fairy tales was Disney movies. I’d always felt that there was something wrong with the overly happily way they were told. But when I started reading hundreds of original fairy tales — and by that I mean darker stories — it really got to me. Some fairy tales did scare me more than the Boogeyman himself. ( He was my childhood’s biggest fear. I used to keep all my cloths out of the closet so I don’t have to deal with it. But pssst, don’t tell anyone. )

2. Why did you decide to make Snow White a vamp over all other paranormal creatures?

That, I wouldn’t want to spoil. A lot of it is actually based on research and some facts. It started when I couldn’t get over the ‘lips red as blood, skin pale as snow, and hair black as a night‘ thing. I mean why was this even mentioned in the tale? Those specific attributes painted a vampire in my mind’s eye. And then I noticed that those three colors are the colors of Dracula, his black/red cloak and pale skin. So I started a little research and found a couple of historical facts that connected the dots, backing up the idea. The rest, was from my wicked imagination.

3. Will the series follow Snow White only… Or do you expect other fairy tale characters to come out and play??? (*ahem* Sleeping Beauty!!!! Just in case you were looking for inspiration. Lol)

I wouldn’t miss that, would I? The Grimm Diaries is a whole big fairy tale world were most of the fairy tale characters reside, but not the way we used to know them. Fabulous readers who have read the Grimm Prequels know what I mean — especially Sleeping Beauty, she is mentioned in the novella ‘Beauty Never Dies’. Snow White Sorrow is a tricky first book in the series, because it sets the stage for the whole journey. If I did my job right and managed to make you like it, you’re in for very new world of fairy tales.

4. The synopsis for Snow White Sorrow says,

“Mysteriously, she lets Loki live, and whispers two words in his ears; two words that will change his life forever.”

Any chance you want to tell us what two words Snow White whispers to Loki that changes his life forever??? Because seriously… I’m kind of dying to know!!!

LOL. I really can’t. Ask me anything else. I’d send you an excerpt of a chapter or something, but don’t ask me this. It so spoils the book. When I first wrote the synopsis, I left this part out, but when I was told my synopsis sounds like another book, I tried to add the things that showed how much it is really different. Actually yesterday I was asked to sum the synopsis in two sentences and came up with this “A teenage demon hunter is summoned to kill a monster girl in an ancient castle. Her name is Snow White.” I think this pretty much describes the book.

5. Do you have an anticipated number of books in The Grimm Diaries series?

Ok. I am taking a deep breath before I say this : Seven books. But most of it counts on how readers will think of Snow White Sorrow. I’ve already finished a draft of book 2 called Cinderella Dressed in Ashes. Each book kinda presents one of the fairy characters in a new light while the main arch of the story goes on.

6. What’s the insider info on the Alice Grimm series? (Yeah… I stalked your blog…) She was more of a minor character, and then you decided she was far too awesome to share a story?

You stalked my blog?!! That’s awesome news actually icon smile Interview with Cameron Jace Author of Snow White Sorrow

Alice Grimm was a minor character in Cinder to Cinder and Ashes to Ashes, She is a descendant of the  Brothers Grimm whose job is to trace fairy tale characters’ origins after her ancestors had forged the tales. I got emails from readers asking about Alice who is not going to show up in the first two books in the main series. Then one day while I was trying to loosen up from rewriting Snow White Sorrow, I tried to write a short story to free my mind. Something that just flowed by itself. At the end, I discovered that this was Alice Grimm with a different fairy tale plot, a more romantic one. So hopefully we’ll hear from her soon. Sometimes characters force themselves on you, and there is nothing you can do.

7. What is YOUR favorite fairy tale?

OK. Even though I like tons of them, but I have 2 favorite fairy tales of all time: The first is East of the Sun and West of the Moon, and the second is The Buried Moon ( about a princes who is the moon and when she disappears there is no one to light up the night and face the demons that walked the dark. This one kinda sums up what I really like about fairy tales.) I know that these aren’t the most famous one but they’re the one’s I really like.

This or That:

1. Books or TV (books)
2. Vampires or Zombies (actually zombies!)
3. French fries or Tater tots ( can I have both? One today the other tomorrow?)
4. Goonies or Stand by Me (BOTH, they’re different sides to the same coin. love’m.)
5. Procrastinate or Get ‘er done (Get’er done. What I procrastinate I end up never doing)
6. Summer or Winter (Summer)

Snow White Sorrow by Cameron Jace

Publication date has been delayed. I will post a new one soon
What if all you knew about fairy tales was wrong?

Sixteen year old Loki Blackstar is no Prince Charming. His mother is a ghost. His only friend is a red Cadillac that talks to him through the radio. He looks like an Angel but acts like jerk. No wonder he has been banned from Heaven, which is the least of his troubles. Loki needs a job to pay for school and support himself.

Still, Loki has a rare gift: He is a Dreamhunter. One of the few in the world who can hunt and kill immortal demons in their dreams so they never wake up again.

When Loki is sent to kill a sixteen-year-old vampire girl the locals call Snow White Sorrow, he is pulled into a magical but dangerous world. The locals believe the monster to be Snow White.

The real Snow White… living in the ruins of an ancient castle in a small town. She is described as horribly beautiful, terrifyingly enchanting, and wickedly lovely.

What he finds instead is a beautiful monster girl filled with rage and hurt, who has an epic untold story to tell of things such like why the Brothers Grimm altered the fairy tale, who the Evil Queen really is, where the mirror came from, and who possessed it.

Snow White has killed every person who has dared come near the castle where she once lived with the queen. Mysteriously, she lets Loki live, and whispers two words in his ears; two words that will change his life forever

Cameron Jace: Wonderlander, Neverlander, Unicorn-chaser, enchanter, musician, survived a coma, & totally awesome. Sometimes I tell stories. Always luv the little monsters

I write young adult paranormal romance, urban fantasy, and science fiction mostly. The Grimm Diaries series is a seven book saga that deals with retellings of fairy tales from a young adult POV – it connects most of the fairy tales together and claims to be the truth about fairy tales.

I live in San Fransisco and seriously think circles are way cooler than triangles.
