Today we have gotten one of my very favorite authors ever, J.L. Bryan, celebrating the release of Fairyvision, the fifth book in the Songs of Magic series!
Songs of Magic Board Game
from J. L. Bryan
One of my favorite things about writing the Songs of Magic series is the freedom to create all kinds of fun, magical, silly, and often pun-based settings and creatures. To celebrate the release of Fairyvision, the fifth book in the Songs of Magic series, I’ve dreamed up elements of a Songs of Magic board game (which does not actually exist in any form…) and asked some bloggers to share them as guest posts.
Following is the section of the game board that represents the fifth book, Fairyvision. I hope you enjoy! Big thanks to the Zombie Queen for posting it today!

Black Castle Chasm: A deep chasm crosses the Hauntlands, running north to the Abominable Mountains and south to Mummy-opolis. The only bridge across is Black Castle, an ancient fortress that straddles the chasm. Unfortunately, it’s inhabited by vampire bats, as well as a vampire cat or two.
Mummy-opolis: A mazelike city full of fantastic limestone architecture, statues, tombs, and columns, columns, columns! Mummy-opolis is inhabited by undead mummies who are paranoid about tomb robbers and will sic enchanted statues and mummified jackals on any trespassers.
Royal Fairgrounds: Located just outside Sidhe City, the Royal Fairgrounds have been closed for centuries, mainly because Queen Mab finds fairs to be annoying, disgusting events. However, with her control of her empire slipping, the queen re-opens the fairgrounds at the urging of leprechaun newspaper magnate Aonghus Mac Lobhar.
Phantom Opera House: In downtown Sidhe City stands the stately Phantom Opera House, rumored to be haunted, guaranteed to overcharge you on ticket prices.
Twinklestar Theater: Inside the Royal Fairgrounds, the Twinklestar Theater is an old wooden playhouse, which the leprechauns renovate into a fantastic seven-stage performance venue extravaganza, with a huge stage for a operas and a small, smokey stage for joke-tellers.
Mad Yeti Lake: Mad Yeti Lake is frozen solid, high in the ultra-frosty Abominable Mountains. Reclusive ice elves inhabit an igloo-pueblo village built into a mountainside on the shore of the lake. Their customary greeting to visitors: “Why are you bothering me? Go away!”
Decoration Day: Perhaps the biggest holiday in Faerie is Decoration Day, when everyone breaks out their most glittery and shiny decorations. Families get together for feasting, gift-giving, and much chit-chatting about the past year. It’s a magical, colorful day in the middle of the coldest, snowiest season in Faerie.
