I LOVE me some eighties. I was just a little girl back then and didn’t appreciate what the eighties had to offer until they were done and gone, but now I do. So when Ashley (love the name btw) asked me to give you guys my list of absolute favorites from that era, I let out more jumps and giggles than one will find in Girls Just Want To Have Fun.

Top Ten All Time Favorite Eighties Movies

10. Innerspace - Dennis Quaid, Meg Ryan

9. Sixteen Candles – Molly Ringwald

8. E.T. – Henry Thomas, Drew Barrymore, Peter Coyote

7. The Goonies – Sean Astin, Josh Brolin

6. Girls Just Want To Have Fun – Sarah Jessica Parker, Helen Hunt, Shannen Doherty

5. Ferris Bueler’s Day Off – Matthew Broderick, Jennifer Grey, Jeffrey Jones

4. The Money Pit – Tom Hanks, Shelly Long

3. The Great Outdoors – John Candy, Dan Aykroyd

2. Heathers – Winona Ryder, Christian Slater, Shannen Doherty

1. License to Drive – Corey Feldman, Corey Haim, Heather Graham

Okay, okay, okay. I know what you’re gonna say. I forgot about The Breakfast Club. Sorry, I actually didn’t. I know that it’s probably the most iconic film of the 80′s but it just didn’t do it for me that much. <shrugs> Neither did Say Anything – sorry John Cusack with the boombox. And if you think that’s bad, you should’ve seen my hubby’s face when I told him I have yet to see The Lost Boys. Seriously…his jaw still hasn’t made its way back to his mouth. Anyways, if you haven’t seen something on this list, totally check it out. Trust me – they have the Devon Ashley Movie-Worth-Your-Buck Seal of Approval. icon smile Devon Ashleys Top 10 Favorites 80s Movies! Falling In Between Tour

I guess since Heathers, Goonies, Sixteen Candles and Ferris Bueller ARE on your list… I won’t completely hold your non-choices against you.

But not LOVING the Breakfast Club is… just BLASPHEMOUS! Bender and Claire??? “Does Barry Manilow know you raid his wardrobe?” …

Uuuum Say Anything is NOTHING short of EPIC.  John Cusak holding the boombox? Are you joking???

Falling In Between

Finally! A private conversation. And all I had to do was throw myself off a cliff, drown in a pond in my undies and let him put his hands on my breasts to bring me back to life. Yay me…(yeah, that’s sarcasm)

Yep, that pretty much sums up the most craptastic night of Jenna Baker’s life. She drowns after jumping off a cliff, meets a hotty named Chance in the pearlescent in-between and is brought back to life by her soon-to-be boyfriend Robert.

Just when things start to move forward with Robert, the guy she’d been crushing on for a year now, in walks the man of her dreams – literally. Chance suddenly appears in her dream every time she closes her eyes. So it’s Robert by day and Chance by night. One in the real world and one in the dream world. What could possibly go wrong?

Absolutely nothing – until she comes face to face with the guy she met in the in-between, and realizes her romantic rendezvous with Chance may be more than just her imagination. goodreads Devon Ashleys Top 10 Favorites 80s Movies! Falling In Between Tour

    1. YES YES YES. Breakfast Club and The Lost Boys are MUSTs for the list.

I also agree with Sixteen Candles (Hello sexy girlfriend) and License to Drive (love the part where the dad is waiting for him to come back and he holding the HUGE package of diapers and other things, the look on his face was priceless).

The Great Outdoors, any movie where a bear gets shot in the a$$ with a lamp is just plan funny.

Another I would add to the list that just happens to be my fav Christmas movie too is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. (Love cousin Eddy.)

      Oh and Caddyshack.

    2. Great post!! I don’t even know how I could choose just 10. Those are some great picks, but I would have to have The Princess Bride, Labyrinth, Dirty Dancing, Pretty in Pink…I could go on and on. I am totally an 80′s person. Lol.

    3. Tina says:

Oh my gosh Ive seen The Lost Boys about 3000 times since I was 15….:D And how about Pretty in Pink, oh my gosh and Some Kind of Wonderful…those are my 3 favs from the 80′s

    4. GREAT list, and of course ANY John Hughes movies plus Lost Boys is mandatory, but the 80s just wouldn’t have been the same without three seminal classics: Night of the Comet, Chopping Mall and… Valley Girl. In fact, come to think of it, I haven’t watched those three in awhile. Heading over to Netflix now; PLEASE be able to watch instnatly, PLEASE be able to watch instantly… :^>

Seriously, though, GREAT list; the 80s rock. I graduated in 86 and this whole post warms my old, gray Family Ties loving heart…

    5. Smash Attack says:

I was a child in the 80s too and it is my FAVORITE era. I LOVED your choices. However, you need to get on The Lost Boys train! You won’t want to get off, evar! :)

    6. Jenny says:

Oh my gosh THE GOONIES!!!! I love that movie so much! I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve watched it (an embarrassingly high number) and I never get tired of Sloth and Chunk:)

    7. Seriously, I can rewatch those movies endlessly! I never get tired of them. I have to even throw in Dirty Dancing. The 80′s totally rocked movies!

    8. Christina Kit. says:

      I love Ferris Bueller!

      I loved this post:))

      Thanks for the giveaway!

    9. Shelby says:

The BREAKFAST CLUB was amazing. I’ve seen a few of the movies on the list. My mom shows us her favorite movies from when she was a kid:)

    10. I think Ferris Buehler is still my fave 80s movie; it’s so fun and captures the best of ’80s teen movies. I thought Ferris was soo cool when I was younger!
Heathers was amazing to me when I saw it as a teen in the ’90s. The fashion was already hopelessly outdated, but Clueless had some of that same blazer and knee socks action. Sometimes I still can’t believe how much I attached to Heathers consdiering how dark it is. I still regularly refer to the fictional band Big Fun and their hit “Teenage Suicide – Don’t Do It!” It still holds up as a scathing satire.

Lastly, I also love Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. It’s so ridiculous, and Sarah Jessica Parker’s hair is suddenly permed in the last 1/4 of the movie – who needs continunity!

    11. So with you on 7-10 but how can you omit Lloyd Dobbler? LOVE him. And Breakfast Club? LOVE that movie. I think I would add Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Mannequin, Some Kind of Wonderful, Pretty in Pink, Earth Girls are Easy, Princess Bride, and my all time favorite 80s movie: Dirty Dancing!

“You just put your pickle on everybody’s plate college boy and leave the hard stuff to me.”

“Me? I’m scared of everything. I’m scared of what I saw, of what I did, of who I am. But most of all I’m scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life — they way I feel when I’m with you.”

      *le sigh*

      LOVE it.

Great post. Great walk down memory lane.

      (not an entry)

    12. I love the 80′s! All great movie picks, but I would have added Breakfast Club and Say Anything in there too. The Lost Boys is a classic. I mean…that hair alone is awesome! I would have to add Pretty in Pink and Dirty Dancing to the list. Oh and St. Elmo’s Fire!

    13. Heidi says:

For me my iconic 80′s movie is Stand By Me! Gotta love it who could forget the puking at the pie eating contest! That post was lots of fun!

    14. Goonies, ET, Sixteen Candles…they all rock! I love this post ;-)

I wanted to let you know, I tagged you on my blog :D Have a great weekend!

      Evie@ Paromantasy

    15. Your list is EPIC. (Now go watch Lost Boys!!)

    16. Okay, so I’m not the hugest Breakfast Club fan either. And as for The Lost Boys, I had never seen it until I dated a guy who was obsessed with vampires and that was his favorite movie. I was like 19 at the time and looking back I think it was kind of weird. I don’t remember any of the movie. But now I’m giggling at the photo above! 16 Candles, Innerspace, Ferris Buhler….Those are indeed my faves, too! Oh 80′s, where have you gone. And Jake Ryan, will you marry me?

      jtheunknown{at}gmail{dot}com

      • Tina says:

JEN!! Seriously we like all of the same guys…:D Jake, Channing, Angel…did I mention I had a huge crush on Jordan from NKOTB….LOL, LOL… I bet our hubbys look alike…:D

    17. Vivien says:

OMG I absolutely ADORE the Lost Boys…..brings back such memories. I must watch it again! I fell in love with Vampires because of this one.

    18. Oh, Lost Boys would definitely top my list, probably along with Adventures in Babysitting, Goonies, Better Off Dead, Heathers, Less Than Zero, One Crazy Summer, Shag, Say Anything (do you see a John Cusack them yet?) and Teen Witch, so top that! Okay, now as soon as I unpack our dvd player I need to have an 80′s movie week… of course it’ll have to include a lot more than what I listed. Because there are all the wonderful brat pack movies like St. Elmo’s Fire and Pretty in Pink, and Breakfast Club and… must stop now before I end up on ebay buying swatch watches and leg warmers… well, more leg warmers. Thanks for the giveaway!

    19. There is no freaking way that loving 80s films is legal without the Lost Boys. I also have to give props to the 2 you didn’t like. I mean really! ;)

      Otherwise… great list! LOL

    20. Just Jenn says:

How is Dirty Dancing not on this list?? Are you freaking kidding me? Really???

    21. Margay says:

Sixteen Candles and Breakfast Club – classic! And I love Ferris, too! So many good ones!

    22. What about St. Elmo’s Fire? Or is that the wrong decade? Still the Breakfast Club groupish. Loved 16 Candles! And the music from those movies! Ferris Bueller has got to be an all time favorite! And my husband and I always quote Caddyshack, “So I got that going for me, which is nice!” Oh, I loved the 80′s!!

      Heather

    23. Candace says:

Oh man, I just want to have an evening of all 80′s movies, so many MEMORIES! Heathers is the one that made me fall in love with Christian Slater. Seriously, I WAS going to marry him. I KNEW he was THE ONE! Yeah, I was only 11, but so what? lol.
      Awesome post!

    24. YAY for Sixteen Candles! Tons of great movies on this list!

    25. Rachel says:

Aw Dude, no Breakfast Club? No Lost Boys? And no Say Anything???? Ugh! At least there is Sixteen Candles and Ferris Bueller. But The Great Outdoors?

No St. Elmo’s Fire? Wall Street? Pretty in Pink? The Outsiders? Risky Business? Valley Girl? Fast Times at Ridgemont HIgh? Weird Science?

      Heathers was epic though….

    26. Devon Ashley says:

LOL…All good movies but Ashley only let me choose TEN!!!! The 80′s were epic and it was SO hard to choose. :)
…I did forget about Dirty Dancing but at least I didn’t add Howard the Duck, right?

    27. Ohhhh gosh, this list made me laugh so much!! x) I was sharing them with my aunt and she thought they were so funny because she watched almost all of them. I definitely need to catch up on my 80s movies! ;) The only one I think I’ve heard of, I think, was Sixteen Candles LOL.

Really fun guest post! <3 Next time I have a movie-watching marathon, you can bet it's going to be filled with 80s movies! ;)

    28. LisaILJ says:

Breakfast Club and Lost Boys deserve a place on the best 80′s movies list. I am totally on board with Heathers, Goonies, Sixteen Candles and Ferris Bueller. I most definitely would have put Say Anything and Dirty Dancing there too. One not mentioned that I would HAVE to have on my list would be Ghost Busters. I would also have a hard time keeping Beverly Hills Cop off my list.

    29. SupaGurl says:

Love your list but yeah I agree with her! The Lost Boys… The Breakfast Club EEEP!! <3 <3 <3 Those :0)

Also.. yeah The Princess Bride is my fave movie of ALL Time! Just FYI

      SupaGurl

    30. Danielle Bateman says:

This book sounds so funny! I can’t believe she doesn’t like the Breakfast Club! LOL! I can’t wait to read this book. Thank you very much for the wonderful giveaway.

    31. Kristin says:

Whaaat??? No Gremlins, Raiders of the Lost Ark or *gasps* Star Wars (okay, not the first one, that was in the ’70s)?! I also love Trading Places, War Games, When Harry Met Sally, Young Sherlock Holmes, The Little Mermaid, Ladyhawke and The Burbs.

Not a big fan of The Breakfast Club either, but yea whoever mentioned The Princess Bride first, it’s inconceivable (sorry!) that is wasn’t on the list!
