What if you knew exactly when you would die? In the not-too-distant future, genetic engineering has turned every newborn into a ticking time bomb — males only live to age 25 and females only live to age 20.
In this bleak landscape, young girls are kidnapped and forced into polygamous marriages to keep the population from dying out. When 16-year-old Rhine Ellery is taken by “the Gatherers” to become a bride, she enters a world of wealth and privilege. Rhine has only one purpose after she has been married to her new husband, Linden: to escape and find her twin brother.

But Rhine has more to contend with than losing her freedom. Linden’s eccentric father is bent on finding an antidote to the genetic virus that is getting closer to taking his son, even if it means collecting corpses in order to test his experiments. With the help of Gabriel, a servant to whom she is dangerously attracted, Rhine is desperate to learn the truth and protect those closest to her. But, as her sister wife Cecily keeps insisting, her role may be much bigger than that.

In the first two books of the Chemical Garden trilogy, Wither and Fever, Rhine struggles to escape the mansion and then to navigate the brutal world outside. Now in Sever, the third and final book, Rhine uncovers some shattering truths about the past that her parents never had the chance to tell her and the alarming implications regarding her own genes. She may be the one who can save the human race.

  1. Dude. I HAVE to get started on these books! – I am so behind. – GAH!
On another note though; I freaking LO-VE it! :)

  2. Cari says:

I hope they tone down the green a little. The others have such soft colors and this one seems really bold. Still I’ll buy it!

  3. Somer says:

I love it! I haven’t read #2 yet either, but this new cover makes me want to read it asap!

  4. Justine says:

Book#2 is even better then #1, or at least I thought so. If you have not read these books you need to put them on the top of your to-do list!

  5. I keep meaning to pick the first two up but I just haven’t gotten around to it. Guess I should do that. Or maybe I’ll just wait until the whole series is out so I don’t have to deal with the suspense, oh the suspense!

  6. Megan says:

I finished reading the second book today, and finding out the third doesn’t come out till next February is killing me. I just want to knowwww what happens with Rhine and her brother, and Gabriel. Ahh i’ll be counting down the days!

  7. It’s a bit “christmassy”, but I like it. I really need to catch up and read book 2!

  8. Giselle says:

Weeeell… I’m not a fan of the Kool-Aid green we’ve got going on here.. Like, compared to the other’s it’s a bit too hapy go-lucky lol. But the apple looks good. Right?

    • You guys are KILLING me! Now I’m going to have to out myself… See, to me it looks very emerald-y… Lol but I keep hearing it’s more “neon”! Gah! I don’t see “shades” like everyone else!

      Ask Smash… Hehe.

  9. candace says:

I love it! I’m with you, the first is my favorite cover, but I love them all!

  10. Kelsey says:

I love this cover, though the second is probably my favourite one. I can’t wait for this book to come out!

  11. O that’s cool.
The hair got progressively less frizzy.

  12. Karen says:

I know I’m alone in this but I didn’t like the previous two covers. (hides) But I do love this one.

  13. Knight says:

I have mixed feelings about the cover as awful as that sounds. On the one hand I know it’s the same model, but she seems different and doesn’t have the same vibe that the other two photos had.

I always found the covers to have a magical quality to them. I think the set up was beautiful, I can even accept the green, but something about her eyes in that particular shot don’t seem to fit the look and more important mood of the trilogy.

Or maybe it’s because her eyes are open for the first time, which is why it looks so weird to me.

Maybe if her head was tilted down or if she didn’t look directly in the camera the covers would still have that mysterious quality to them.

It’s still beautiful, but it just doesn’t fit for me.

  18. Uma says:

See i think what everybody else is missing is that there’s meant to be contrast. This is the final book. All the happy ending stuff is going to happen. She’s got her eyes open. There’s apples everywhere this is a good vibe. I personally love it.

  19. Mya says:

I loved this book so much! what other books do you recommend if i love this book?
