Christy and Adam have been BFF’s since kindergarten, when they were companionably ostracized by their already narrow-minded classmates.
Things haven’t changed a whole lot in the years since Mini Mean Girls from hell began, but Junior year, a love spell, yummy new boytoys and a sneaky flying broom all mean trouble for this dynamic duo!
Christy is a fledgling witch who is still desperately trying to “grow into her pointy witch hat”! *hehe* She has quite the ornery disposition, while still maintaining plenty of snarky teenage awesome.
Adam was super sweet and totally lovable! Fiercely loyal and so insecure…. AWWWW!!!! I just need to hug him!
Olivia is the new chick on the block, who ends up pulling a few rabbits out of her metaphorical hat and she is simply MADE OF AWESOME! Drifter is fabulous, and the guy I TOTALLY wanted to see Christy end up with!
Ian… Oh Ian. Sometimes you need a thick layer of duct tape over your mouth for when you’re unable to FILTER the unending flow of “BOY” out of your vocabulary! I do think his heart is in the right place, even when his mouth doesn’t know it though…
Ashley, Adam’s mom, (and quite possibly the BEST CHARACTER EVER WRITTEN… Just sayin.) is EPIC!!!! Even if she WASN’T based on me – she would have been marvelously crafted! But since, she is in fact based off me – this just magnifies her fantasticness until it is off the charts and GALACTIC-sized amazing!!!
“This is unacceptable!” she cried. “Completely una-fucking-cept-a-fucking-ble!” ← This is a direct quote…
“I swear I will bring holy hell down upon you, because when you fuck with the cub, you mess with the fucking mama bear.”
I love reading gay characters in Young Adult fiction, I think it’s a huge step forward in the mentality of readers! And I sincerely hope that in reading books like The Midnight Spell, teenagers struggling with their sexuality will know that it’s okay to be who they are, and love whoever they want!
Frater and Boye delve deep into the intricacies of small town Texas, while exploring the bonds of unconditional friendship and the naivety of first love! The Midnight Spell was delightful, entertaining and surprisingly heartfelt!
