Previously homeschooled Camie Ramsey is being shoved into the shark-infested waters of public high school, where even helium filled, penguin bespeckled arm floaties likely won’t help keep her inexperienced, fifteen-year old head above water in that rip current of hormones and emotions.

Camie’s worldly wisdom might be severely lacking (i.e., the closest she’s come to being kissed was sitting too close to the TV whilst Jake Ryan leaned in to give Samantha that fateful 16th birthday kiss), but she does understand her only hope for survival is if she’s thrown some kind of “social” life preserver before she sinks like a freaking rock. However, what will her fate be when she endeavors to flag down the only lifeguard on duty, the enormously popular and ridiculously beautiful Tristan Daniels? The most sought after and virtually most unattainable guy in school who not only makes Camie’s heart flatline on a recurring basis, he’s also the one guy who seemingly doesn’t know she exists.

Feeling like an inept piece of chum that could ultimately be swallowed by Jaws, can Camie get Tristan to rescue her from floundering in the treacherous deep, or is she destined to be Shark Bait?

Author’s Note:
While the tales themselves are fictional, some of the events and characters are very loosely based in reality and on my experiences—but don’t worry, the names of the characters, most of their unfortunate fashion sense and/or questionable taste in music has been changed to protect the not-so innocent.

Due to language and some adult content, this book may not be suitable for readers under the age of 16.

The Bookish Brunette thought:

Camie Ramsey has just been dipped from the safe little fish tank and thrown into the ocean of teen hell… Okay, well… Not LITERALLY. But COME ON! With that title, you know you love it! But seriously, think NEMO in reverse- and insert PEOPLE. Again with the fish… I can’t help it. Hehe.

I gotta just mention some of the title chapters in Shark Bait because they were of EPIC proportions- made of awesome.

  •  Insert Choice Expletive Here
  •  He Might Be A Man-whore
  •  Nippley New Girl
  •  I’ll Need Some Gum
  •  I’d Like To Thank The Academy

OMG right? I’m all over catchy chapter titles!

I wasn’t sure how much I’d like Shark Bait… I mean it’s getting AMAZING reviews, from amazing people. It’s got a SUPER freaking awesome premise- one that I can totally and completely- 100% relate too… The cover, while not the BEST I’ve ever seen – does say, “Dude, check me OUT! I’ve got a DUCKIE on me!” (and seriously, once you discover the ins and outs and the WHYS behind the cover- it totally makes sense!)

And it was completely obvious by page, ooooh like FOUR that I was completely enamored with Camie Ramsey, her family, her dire situation and with the author, Jenn Cooksey’s writing style.

Camie and her family are moving from Arizona (which from the descriptions in the book, is very much like KANSAS… you know? Built on the face of the sun.) to beautiful California, where she and her sister Jillian will attend Public School for the first time in their entire lives. OMG right? Talk about a fish out of water dude! Hehe…

“I need a freaking alarm clock to wake me up because my first damned class is at (now get this…) 7:15 in the morning! I mean what are we? Chickens? Seriously, who in their right mind can even think straight that early, let alone do math?”

Freaking RIGHT?! LOVED Camie from page one to page 309. (page 309 was the end… In case you didn’t know.)

Shark Bait kept me glued to the pages… (screen? I was on my kindle!), I was *gasping* out loud with indignation, laughing out loud at the snarky awesome humor and absolutely enthralled from beginning to end! I literally kept reading until I could barely hold my eyes open! Yes, it’s one of those books!

On Camie’s first day, she “meets” Tristan… *obligitory, respectful pause for swoon-worthy fictional boy appreciation* and then later Kate and Jeff… thus setting in motion a series of events that no one shall soon forget- INCLUDING the reader!

The character’s are laughable, completely awesome, a tad devious and A TON of fun! Seriously, I haven’t had this strong of an affinity toward fictional characters since… forever!!

And Jillian? Dude. Watch out for Jillian. She’s MOST epic… But she should be feared. icon smile Book Review: Shark Bait by Jenn Cooksey Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

One of my very favorite things about Camie was how REAL she was- honestly, she was super sweet, her outlook and personality was genuinely charming!!!

“kind of taken aback at the offer of what I’m going to think of as my first engagement present from him.”

(totally not telling you what he gave her… But, how flipping CUTE is she right?)

Jenn Cooksey has written a smooth, sarcastic, hilarious, witty, REAL, relatable and absolutely addicting book! Shark Bait was so amazingly refreshing and I could NOT get enough!

(Shhhyea… I loved it THAT much!)

Did I mention the completely awesome soundtrack revealed throughout the book?? Jenn Cooksey talks a bit about it in her guestpost, along with the differences between a music whore and a music snob… Oh! And about how she wants to give some internal organs and such… There’s also a giveaway – so go check it out!!!
