Mine to Hold (Wicked Lovers #6)
by Shayla Black
Tyler Murphy was an LAPD detective, single and happy—until a near-fatal tragedy crippled his friend, fellow detective Eric Catalano. While Tyler supported Eric, he also became a shoulder for Eric’s wife, Delaney, to lean on. But with one naughty suggestion from Eric, a drunken night with Delaney spilled into erotic abandon. Before it was over, Tyler saw his best friend’s wife as a woman and yearned for more. When Eric struggled to deal with the aftermath, Delaney begged Tyler to leave. Crushed, he fled to Louisiana, hoping to escape his longing for the one woman he could never have again…and unaware of what he’d left behind.
A lover’s desire.
After two years of living with regret, Tyler finds Delaney on his doorstep, her husband having abandoned her long ago. She’s protecting a shocking secret and desperately needs refuge from a stalker determined to see her dead. As they fight to stay alive and catch the killer, they struggle to resolve the guilt of their past pleasures. But they can’t deny that what was once a spark is now a flame burning out of control. To possess Delaney—body and soul—Tyler must heal her pain and thwart the evil that’s a mere breath behind her…
Shayla Black happens to be one of my favorite Romance/Erotica writers. I have yet to come across a book written by her that I did not like. Mine to hold is no exception. With this being the 6th book in the series – I am pleased to say that it STILL holds my attention. I honestly can’t get enough of her writing! I would also like to point out that of the 6 books, Tyler’s story happens to be my favorite. Although, when the next book comes out, that will more than likely change. – you will soon learn why if you read these books (:
In Mine to Hold, we are introduced to Tyler and Delaney. These two are BY FAR, with the exception of Xander, my favorite characters written by Black. Being the best friend and partner of Delaney’s husband, Eric – Tyler spends alot of time around them. Then Eric gets injured on the job and Tyler tries everything to help Delaney keep her marriage going through all of Eric’s mood swings, anger, drinking and everything else. In one night, everything changes. Being increasingly drunk and enjoying time with his best friend and wife, Eric makes a stupid suggestion of having his best friend “please” his wife, since he is paralyzed from the waist down and can no longer do it. Yes – real genius move there. Even more genius? The fact that after lots of discussion, Tyler and Delaney agree with this.
2 years later – Delaney is running for her life. This chick is bad ass. She seems to understand the term “big girl panties” and knows just what to do with them. Thank you Jesus. It’s refreshing to read a story where the heroine can hold her own. Eric couldn’t handle the aftermath of his request and their marriage ended in divorce not long after that night. Now, thanks to her job & the story that she was onto, someone wants her dead. So what does she do? Turns to the one persons he knows will help her, despite the fact that she hasn’t seen him in 2 years. After learning where he is and driving cross country, she shows up on his door step – not to ask for help for HER life – but the life of her son… er; THEIR son.
Tyler, bless his heart – takes this like a CHAMP. Having thought about her every day since that night – it’s a miracle he doesn’t jump her bones the minute he opens the door. He has other plans though. No matter how much he wants to step up to the “Dad” plate – he’s not letting Delaney go off on her own. With the “family” he has surrounded himself with (read about them in books 1-5!) they all pull together and implement a plan. I simply love how he stepped up to the plate here – it’s not often you see that.
Shayla Black wrote a very heartwarming story with a side of erotic perfection. It was just the right amount of balance between the two. I also love every freaking side character that was written into this book. I’d LOVE to have the set of friends that Tyler has in this book. That would make for some never ending fun times! I honestly think this book wouldn’t be complete without them. The best thing about this book? How it opened up the story of Xander and his brother. I have been transfixed on Xander since he first appeared and I cannot WAIT for that book to come out! I am so impatient. It’s horrible. Hurry Shayla. HURRY!
